Mbaye & Gideon

Nelson Mbaye Wairimu

Mbaye
My names are Nelson Mbaye Wairimu. I was born in June 1991. I am second born in a family of five kids, four girls and one boy.

My father and mother separated a few years ago and now the kids are separated as well. My elder sister and I were chased away from our mother’s place and now we are living with our father who is jobless.

Before my parents separated, I was learning in a government school known as Dandora Primary School. In that school we were given free books, pens, and our fees were paid by the government.

After some time things got worse for would sometimes go hungry for a full day. That’s when I sought help from my friends. My friends told me how they got money and I was interested. I never knew they got money through stealing or by going to the dumpsite in Dandora (called Boma by the locals) to scavenge for leftovers from the airport.

Life was hard because sometimes when we would go to Boma we would be beaten by the big kids or they would say whatever we found we had to share equally with them. Luckily I was told about Jamii Bora and I was taken in from 2005 until now that I am in form 2. I thank God for that and also Mama Ingrid.

My vision is that when I finish school I would like to join the military and serve my country for the rest of my life. If not the military then I will train as an engineer.

I hope that God will see me through my high school education and also help me achieve my goals. I do not want any of my family to pass through the life that I have passed through.

Gideon Kipkech Kangogo

My name is Gideon Kipkech Kangogo from Baringo North constituency. I am a student aged 22 years, born on 4th Jan, 1988. I am studying at an esteemed institution called Kaputiei High School in Kajiado North constituency.

As I have said earlier, I come from Baringo District, where my parents and siblings manage to survive. I come from the poorest of families. I have both parents and six siblings, three sisters and three brothers. We have been facing a lot of problems in this area of Baringo District due to inadequate rainfall, food, and other facilities.

However, my parents, siblings, and I are surprisingly able to face these huge problems, especially my parents and I since I am the first-born son in our family. We have lived in this area from hand to mouth for many years. So, in this reality, my family struggles sincerely to get something to put in our stomach and satisfy our other requirements.

Honestly, I have managed to provide for myself and my family since I was a young boy in standard 3. I finished standard 8 in 2005 and passed my KCPE examination with flying colours. But my parents were not willing to pay my school fees, so I marked that as the end of my education, but I did not give up. I decided to pray to God all the time and God answered my prayers.

Honestly, I pondered seriously the matter and it was 2006 when I decided to show a pair of Clean Heels in that area of Baringo where I went through so many problems. And it was really difficult. At that time, I was not saved, so I cried to God to save me and in 2007 I got saved and I am now saved. I paid attention and kept looking for a sponsor whom God has prepared for me to pay the school fees as I continue my education until I join university.

Although by now I had faced a lot of challenges, God brought me across a certain company called Jamii Bora Limited as Isenya in St. Anne. I applied for a job there but did not succeed. I struggled there for a short period and God showed me how I can achieve my dreams and visions. Later, I heard of a secondary school this company was building, so I applied to this esteemed institution. I wrote a letter and sent it to the owners of the company. I was admitted to the school and joined form 1 on 24th Feb 2010. This institution is called. I am now doing well at Kaputiei Secondary School.
